Waste Minimization

Today, industrial waste, which seriously threatens both the environment and human health, is confronted as a growing problem in our country as well as across the world. Production, consumption, and service activities, which increase in parallel with industrialization, bring along the serious environmental problems. Problems encountered in the identification and management of industrial waste are among the biggest reasons for the increase in environmental pollution.

It can be said that the concerns on the financial burden and workforce, brought by the waste management issue to institutions and businesses, are the main reason for the problems experienced in practice. In line with the provision of “It is forbidden to directly or indirectly deliver, store, transport, dispose of all kinds of waste and residues to the recipient environment in a way that is harmful to the environment and in violating the standards and methods specified in the relevant regulations.” in the Environmental Law, the waste management practices in our country principally aimed at reducing wastes at their source, recycling wastes, and disposing of wastes without harming the environment.

For a successful waste management: First of all, hazardous waste should be prevented and reduced at its source. Wastes should be collected separately by their types. The possibility of reusing the generated wastes inside or outside the organization should be evaluated. For non-reusable waste, recovery and recycling possibilities should also be examined. Wastes that cannot be reduced, reused, and recycled should be disposed of in accordance with environmental legislation, in a way that does not harm human and environmental health.
